TUESDAY ART DAY-The color ORANGE

Happy Tuesday Students!  Our next color is that of ORANGE.

I once heard Orange described as a Youthful Red, WOW it really is!

Orange is a blend of red and yellow.  It is a mixture of the energy associated with red and the happiness associated with yellow. Orange connects with meanings of enthusiasm, creativity, success, encouragement, change, determination, health, stimulation, balance, freedom, expression, joy and warmth.

Psychologically, Orange promotes a sense of general wellness and emotional energy.  It aids in the assimilation of new ideas and frees the spirit of its limitations, giving us the freedom to be ourselves.  Orange will help a person recover from disappointments, a wounded heart, or a blow to one’s pride.

Studies show that this color can create physical effects such as increased hunger.  It stimulates the appetite and is a popular color in restaurants to encourage the feeling of hunger and contentment. If you love having people around the kitchen table, orange will keep them talking and eating for a long time.

Lastly, my favorite component is that Orange relates to 'gut reaction' or our gut instincts.  (As opposed to the physical reaction of red or the mental reaction of yellow)

Shades of Orange can also be described as pumpkin,  gold, copper, flame, brass, apricot, peach, rust, citrus, mandarin, tangerine.

SPRING IS HERE!!

Today marks the Vernal Equinox which means.......It's the first day of Spring!  A Renaissance is here! Rejuvenate your senses, smell the fresh air, hear the birds singing, feel the sunshine on your face, see the flowers bloom--this is all an essential part of your transformation!

YOU are planting
the seeds that will spread
their roots and grow.

The word equinox is Latin meaning Equal Nights.  The tilt of the Earth is relative to that of the Sun, so our Days and Nights are equal.  I can remember once (in my Spanish class) we tested the folklore of an equinox. Can you stand a raw egg on its end~without it tipping over? Well, to my amazement it worked. It balanced perfectly and I was mesmerized! (Thank You Mrs. Kemmis.)

This talk of spring has got me thinking thoughts of the four seasons.  Each season plays a big role in our life stages~our life cycles.  I imagine a Garden.  In the Winter, you look at what lies just beneath the snow, waiting...wondering.  In the Spring you plant seeds & nourish them.  In the Summer your Garden is basking in the sunshine-remember to water it & enjoy watching it grow.  By the Fall, you harvest the crop & enjoying its flavor.  And in Winter, your Garden looks barren, lifeless....ready to continue on as a cycle does.

So What is your Garden going to look like this Season?
Are you planting a good variety of seeds?

TUESDAY ART DAY- The Color RED

Welcome back Students!!  In our Lesson today, we will start to explore Color Theory.  Color has a huge impact on our emotions, perceptions, spirituality and physical well being.

All colors have a temperature and feelings or physical
attributes associated to it.....Color is Alive!!

Today, the first color I'd like to reference is RED.  It is the warmest of all colors.  It is associated with meanings of love, passion and desire.  Red is the color most chosen by extroverts and is a top pick amongst males. Red is a strong, stimulating, hot color that represents excitement and energy.

Studies shave shown how that the color red can create physical effects such as elevated blood pressure, enhanced metabolism, increased enthusiasm, higher levels of energy, and increased confidence. It is the color of blood and fire and is a highly visible color.  Red grabs your attention quickly, which is one of the reasons why fire trucks and stop signs are painted red. http://www.bourncreative.com/meaning-of-the-color-red

How's that for getting your attention with Color Theory!

The shades of Red can be described as scarlet, burgundy, crimson, ruby, vermilion, maroon, rose, rouge, brick, blood red, blush, fire engine red, russet, and tomato-just to name a few.

IN HONOR OF ST PATRICK

I happen to be a Lucky Lady!! My Grandmother & My Godmother were both born on this day, the 17th of March-aka- St Patrick's Day!!  So I must be Lucky by association, right!  So as you know, I like to know WHY we celebrate certain Holidays.  I mean it's, not all about drinking Green Beer and falling off your bar stool (well- it was more like I Spun off of it!)  But Who is Saint Patrick and Why Do we celebrate this Day?

Patrick was born in AD 387 just south of Hadrian’s Wall in Britain, which was part of the Roman Empire (that's right — he wasn't Irish!). He was captured by Irish pagans in his early teens and taken to Ireland, where he was enslaved for six years. During that time, he grew to like the spirit of the Irish. When he escaped and returned to his family, he vowed to one day return to Ireland.

He baptized, confirmed, and ordained priests, and he erected schools and monasteries. Thousands came into the Church under his direction. He accomplished all these activities in less than 30 years, during which time the whole island nation of Ireland was converted. He died on March 17, 461, of natural causes. He is buried in Downpatrick in present-day Northern Ireland.

Many stories are told in connection with St. Patrick. The three-leaf clover was said to be used by the saintly bishop to explain the Trinity to the pagans, which is why it is such a common symbol today. Another legend has Patrick driving all the snakes out of Ireland; snakes were a popular symbol among the Irish pagans. He is certainly one of the most revered saints in the Catholic Church.

Today, St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and of engineers. He is also invoked against the fear of snakes and snakebites.

Now Go on with your Day and Drink a some Snakebite Green beer...if it exists.  Drink to my Grandma Gladys and Godmother Karen for me will ya?

POWERFUL THOUGHTS

Have you ever paid attention to what you are THINKING?
One of my goals this year was to be more aware of my Thoughts (and Actions).
Our thoughts are POWERFUL.  They are an important part of our mood, our reality and our future.  I started to be mindful of my thoughts a few years ago, after reading the book The Secret.  By raising awareness of my thoughts, I was able to be conscientious in addressing negative thought patterns and making adjustments. Looking back now, I can see how negative my thinking really was-and my life reflected it.  Thinking and Doing things in a positive fashion will bring positive energy, influences, circumstances & results. By giving up negative thoughts, you are going to discover more positive ones.
Start to Become aware of how often your thoughts
are negative, limiting, or harmful.
These thoughts maybe directed towards yourself or others.

I wish I could tell you that your new positive life happens overnight.  It's like breaking an old habit & it's only accomplished through awareness & action.  This exercise takes practice.  You must be patient with yourself and practice it as often as you think of it.

But in the end, limiting or harmful thoughts are replaced by thoughts of love, abundance, and joy.  Thoughts of anger will shift into thoughts of forgiveness....

JUST START TO BE AWARE OF HOW
POWERFUL YOUR THOUGHTS ARE!

TUESDAY ART DAY

Welcome Back to TUESDAY ART DAY!

Today we will be dissecting the color wheel a bit more.  Remebering our colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue & Voilet.  We are going to identify Primary, Secondary and Tertiary colors.  This is going to be as simple as remembering 1, 2, 3.

Have you every heard of Primary Colors?

Primary Colors are RED. YELLOW. BLUE

Just like a Primary number, a Primary color is a pigment of color that cannot be made by mixing together any other colors.

What makes Primary colors so important is that they are mixed to create all other colors in the color wheel, such as secondary colors.

What are the Secondary colors?  Secondary colors are created by mixing together equal parts of two primary colors

Secondary colors are  ORANGE. GREEN. VIOLET.

For Example:
RED + YELLOW= ORANGE
YELLOW + BLUE=GREEN
BLUE + RED= VIOLET

Lastly, I would like to mention the Tertiary colors.  These colors are created by Mixing a Primary with a Secondary.

Red-Violet. Red-Orange. Yellow-Orange. Yellow-Green. Blue-Green. Blue Violet are all the Tertiary colors

So there you have it!  Next week we will be learning about Color Theory.  Do certain colors evoke a feeling or change your mood?

TUESDAY ART DAY

Tuesdays are going to be a day for learning.  Since Art is a passion of mine, I've decided to focus a few blog posts with lessons to learn from.  I hope you can join my Art class every Tuesday-- so let's begin.

As a high school student, one of my first art classes was about mixing paint colors.  The topic of creating colors, mixing and blending them was fascinating to me!

When the Color Wheel and Color Theory were introduced to me, I discovered things I never new existed.  I gained a fresh perspective about my environment.

What is the color wheel?

The Color Wheel is a fundamental building block for anyone who is learning about mixing color.  Below is a helpful diagram.

The color wheel is made up of
6 main colors:

RED. ORANGE. YELLOW. GREEN. BLUE. VIOLET

Over the course of the next month, I will be discussing each color and its importance.  You may notice the color wheel resembles a rainbow too.  You can find the color wheel in Nature and in Life.

Start thinking about what your favorite color is.  If you don't have one, I'm sure you will after this course.  Color is everywhere & it has such an impact on our physical, mental and emotional health.

I hope you will join me next Tuesday as I continue with the Color Wheel and expand upon the PRIMARY,  SECONDARY & TERTIARY COLORS.
